“I Want To Get Rid Of Fat On Thighs”
Getting rid of fat on thighs and other trouble areas is something that has plagued people (women especially) for a very long time. You may not know it, but when you’re looking to lose weight or fat in this area or others, one of the first things to do is make a mental change in what you think about dieting and weight loss.
As we have always heard it said, “everybody’s different”. This is true when it comes to being overweight. Some people carry most of their extra weight in their stomachs. Some people carry their extra weight in their upper arms and legs. Then there are those who carry their extra weight right in the thighs and that’s mainly the only place that seems to jiggle just a little too much. And this is where their problem is.
So, why do people have these specific problem areas? From what research has shown, it has a lot to do with gender. Women tend to have fat deposits in the pelvis, hips, and thighs. Men, on the other hand, tend to develop pot bellies with the fat localized primarily in the abdomen.
Why It’s Hard To Get Rid Of Fat On Thighs
Fat on the thighs is driven by hormones. Studies show that women develop twice as many fat cells during the teenage years as men do. And as a woman progresses toward child bearing years, the fat cells actually expand in size. So, women get this “double whammy” effect of having more fat cells in the hips and thighs that get bigger as the woman ages.
Trying to get rid of fat on thighs or any other localized place in the body falls under the term of spot reducing. Haven’t you seen all those commercials on late night TV that are selling “the tummy blaster” type product? “Use this product and you’ll lose 2 inches of fat wherever you put it on your body”. The unfortunate thing about spot reducing is that it doesn’t work.
The reason for this is that when your body burns fat, it does so in a generalized way. When your body “mobilizes” fat for energy production, it takes it from everywhere in the body, not just one area. However, it would be nice if this was the case.
So, how can you get rid of fat on thighs? Fat burning in general is a combination of eating the right types of food and getting the right amount of physical activity. I hate to use the word “exercise” because some people equate it with having to join a gym or where tight outfits and do a lot of bouncing and jumping around in an aerobics class.
Let’s face it, for someone who is not happy with the way their thighs, butt, or stomach looks, the last thing they want to do is to put on some tight outfit and go “bounce around”.
First Step To Getting Rid Of Fat On Thighs
The first step, in my opinion, would be learning how to get your diet under control. Why? Because this is what’s essentially causing the problem for the majority of people. Eating too much, eating the wrongs types of foods, eating at the wrong times, all contribute to having extra weight.
Most people don’t know that the food combinations they eat actually contain too many carbohydrates that aren’t burned off. These extra carbs are then changed into fat because that’s how your body stores it’s excess energy. Find out how this happens in these videos (there are more videos on the other pages too).
Foods like pasta, rice, breads, (and we haven’t even mentioned the sweet stuff) are basically concentrated carbohydrates. If you think about it, the common myth is that you shouldn’t eat fast foods because they’re all fried. While this may be true, there is also a lot of carbs in the french fries, onion rings, hamburger buns, and even the apple pie!
All the extra carbs in these foods, when you’re not actively burning them off with exercises, are converted to fat and stored in the fat cells. And remember, that with women these fat cells are big and there are a lot of them and they are mostly located in the hips and thighs. So, like I said, the first thing that you can do to start getting rid of fat on thighs is to get control of how many carbs you’re eating and change your eating habits.
Exercise To Get Rid Of Fat On Thighs
Now, I don’t want to leave you with the impression that exercising is not important and that there aren’t any exercises that will help get rid of fat on thighs. There are. They just don’t do anything for spot reducing. But, what they do do (do do?), is target the muscles in the thighs. If the muscles are more firm, your legs will have a better appearance AND more muscle will burn more calories.
The primary exercise that you should be doing to reduce the amount of fat on the thighs are squats. Doing squats will work the whole lower extremity. Butt, quads, hams, and even calves.
The proper way to do a squat is to imagine that you are sitting down in a chair. But, you want to imagine that you’re sitting on an egg that you don’t want to break. You lightly tap the seat and then return to the starting position and repeat for your desired number of reps. If you’re doing them slowly and deliberately, you’ll work a greater portion of the muscles and so, be able to burn more fat.
When you are thinking about starting an exercise program you have to do it the same way you start your new diet. There has to be a plan and a realization that it isn’t something that you do for a couple of weeks or months. It’s a lifestyle change. In order to lose fat on the thighs or any other part of your body, you have to change the way you think and the way you live.
There has to be a new way that you look at dieting. Finding the right diet solution can be tough but there are many ways to do it. The main thing is that to reach your goals, you have to start with a mental and emotional change about how you look at weight loss. Then getting a handle on your eating habits and tie it altogether with a full body exercise program.
Follow these basic steps and you will definitely be on the right course to getting rid of fat on thighs.
