How To Lose Weight In College

Are You Trying To Lose Weight In College?

Trying to lose weight in college doesn’t have to be complicated if you develop a plan and stick to it. Most people go into dieting and try to lose weight by simply following a program in a book or DVD system without much thought about how the body actually functions to lose weight.

Now, I am not saying that following a book or diet system is wrong. However, what I am saying is that when you understand the basics of fat burning and weight loss, losing weight in college will be easier to do.

There are many dieting systems that actually do this. The Dieting Solution is one of these. But, there are others too. But, make sure that if you chose to follow a particular program, they make it a point to give you as much knowledge about the body and how it works as needed to make the whole thing make sense.

The Fundamental Of How To Lose Weight In College

Let’s look at the fundamentals: If you eat more calories than you expend, those calories are stored as fat in your body. Calories are burned up and used mostly through muscular activity. The biggest muscles in your body burn the most calories.

Basically, weight loss in college, like in any other situation, is a matter of burning more calories through activity than you consume when your eating (or drinking).

Now, there are a couple of huge challenges to this simple equation while you’re in college. One is that there are just too many parties to go to, or, just a lot of eating when you’re hanging out. If you’re a beer drinker, losing weight can be especially hard because of all the calories.

Another struggle is the fact that when you’re not partying, you’re in class or studying and so, there is not enough time for a long workout. However, this doesn’t have to be the death knell for your goals of trying to lose weight in college.

The Solution For Trying To Lose Weight In College

One simple solution would be to stop wasting your time in long workouts and focus on strength training the larger muscle groups. If you build the big muscles bigger, they will burn more calories throughout the day. This is because building muscle increases metabolism. Even when you’re sitting in class. Bigger muscles require more energy and so more calories will be burned.

Focusing on the gluteals, the quads, and the lats will help you lose weight fast. At least faster than not focusing on them. Squats, leg extensions and lat pulldowns are 3 exercises that you could work in about 30 minutes 2-3 x per week. This would give you more time to party or study. Which ever is the priority at the time making trying to lose weight in college that much easier.
